Yorkshire Dales from York in Winter

The Yorkshire Dales, covering 1,770 square kilometres (680 sq mi), is one of England's National Parks.  Retaining its renowned beauty and landscapes, the Dales is a working environment, this full day tour introduces you to just that. 

The classic scenery of the National Park takes us deep into the Dales, you will travel through five of the famous Dales including Wensleydale, Swaledale and Wharfedale. 

The tour includes a morning stop in the small market town of Masham, home of the warring breweries, and time for lunch at the village of Reeth in Swaledale.  

Travelling through some of the best countryside in England we will stop to admire the views at the famous Aysgarth Falls, Bolton Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned, and the picture perfect village of Grassington. 

This tour gives a great overview of the Yorkshire Dales all in a day from York.

      Departs Winter departures on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from now until the 24th of March. Starting point is St Leonard's Place, York, YO1 7ET (Sightseeing Bus Stop, outside Art Gallery).

    • On leaving York you will head for a full day in the Yorkshire Dales. After travelling through Boroughbridge and Ripon, you arrive a Masham (pronounced 'Mass'em') for a morning stop, its held Wednesdays and Saturdays its thriving market is still growing strong at 762 since the first charter. 

      Travelling further into the Dales, you pass through Middleham, its royal links once earned it the title of the 'Windsor of the North'. The village of Reeth, a natural amphitheatre surrounded by spectacular scenery, is your lunch stop.

      In the afternoon you will visit the classic Yorkshire villages of West Burton and Grassington. You will also have time to admire the waterfalls at Asygarth and hear about the imprisonment of Mary Queen of Scots at Bolton Castle. 

      By the end of your tour and as you arrive back in York, you will have travelled through five of the famous Dales, including; Swaledale, Nidderdale, Wensleydale, Bishopdale and Whafedale. 
    • Tour Type
      This tour is a guided scenic mini-coach tour, but there are times when you will have the option to walk up to a few hundred metres to take in a view or point of interest.  
       
      Lunch Stop
      You will stop in Reeth for approximately 1 hour. There are two pubs and 2 cafes, a shop and bakery located in Reeth. These cater for a wide range of tastes. 
       
      Clothing & Footwear
      We suggest you wear comfortable and sensible footwear, we also recommend bringing a light raincoat.
