Winter Southern Lakes Highlights

Experience the very best of the Southern Lake District this Winter in this small group mini-coach tour with local knowledgeable guide. Highlights of this afternoon tour will include the famous mountainous valleys of the Langdales, taking in the view at Tarn Hows, and free time to explore the medieval village of Hawkshead. The tours includes a cruise on the longest lake in England, Windermere. Throughout the tour there will be plenty of time to admire the scenery, as your local guide takes you through one of the most beautiful corners of England.

    • Times: Daily Tours: 12.00 to 16.30. Currently this tour runs until the 24th of March 2017. Tours then run from the 30th of October 2017 to the 24th of March 2018.

      Departs The official tour start point is Windermere Information. A complimentary tour collection service is available from Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere. If arriving from further away we are located 200m from Windermere bus and rail station. If driving parking is available in Windermere centre LA23 2AB (5 mins walking). 

      Please note that each customer must have their own seat onboard the vehicle.

    • On leaving the Lakeland village of Windermere the tour heads to the medieval village of Hawkshead, which dates back to the 14th Century and grew to be an important wool trading market. During free time there is the opportunity to explore the village famously linked to William Wordsworth, who attended Hawkshead Grammar School, and childrens author Beatrix Potter who lived nearby.  

      The tour heads onwards to the picturesque tarn of Tarn Hows, where you will have chance to admire the view of the tarn, with the Lakeland Fells as the dramatic backdrop. Continuing towards the lakeside village of Coniston the Mini-Coach provides a great view down the Yewdale Valley. Travelling through the Coniston area you will hear about the famous World Water Speed records from the Campbells on the third largest lake in the National Park. 

      On leaving Coniston the tour makes its way through the Yewdale Valley, you may even see a glimpse of Yew Tree Farm which was used in the film Miss Potter as Beatrix Potter's home.The tour takes in the highlights of the Langdales, including Blea Tarn, with the Langdale Pikes as backdrop and peaceful Elterwater village. 

      On arrival back at lake Windermere, you will join a Windermere Lake Cruise from Waterhead to Bowness Bay, where you can sit back and enjoy unobstructed views from the lake towards the Langdales. As the tour draws to an end in Bowness Bay we transfer you back to your start point. 
      • Tour Type
        This tour is a guided scenic mini-coach tour, but there are times when you will have the option to walk up to a few hundred metres to take in a view or point of interest.  
         
        Lunch Stop
        You will stop briefly in Hawkshead, due to the time of the tour, this stop is not an official lunch stop, we would reccomend you have something before the tour. 
         
        Lake Cruise 
        We predominately cruise on Windermere. Please note we reserve the right to change this due to unforeseen circumstances outside our control.
         
        Clothing & Footwear
        We suggest you wear comfortable and sensible footwear, we also recommend bringing a light raincoat.  
         
        Assistance Dogs
        We are happy to accept assistance dogs only on this tour. Please contact us to advise us in advance.
